Supporting Scriptures for "God's Breath Of Life:" Genesis 2:7 Job 33:4 Psalm 104:29 Luke 12:7
Previously in our Billiards Bible Studies, we have discovered that the white cue ball reminds us of God, the completeness of His creation, and the goodness of the world that we live in. We also just learned that God created the first man from the dust of the earth, but only the form of the man has been created. Man has not been given "life" yet. Let's continue to see what God did next.
And God breathed into the man's body so that the man became a living person.
Before continuing, please pause and close your eyes for the count of five.
In the last five seconds, you just took a breath. Do you ever stop to think who gave you that breath?
Job, one of the early writers in the Old Testament, answers that question for us in Job 33:4. He writes, "For the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almight gives me life."
Don't take your breath for granted! That's why they make mouth wash!
But seriously, listen to what David said in Psalm 104:29. "God, when you take away man's breath, he dies and turns again to dust."
God gives you your ability to live just like He gave Adam life. Our body is a lifeless shell like a pool ball until God breaths life into us. Therefore, our life and worth come from God.
"GOD'S BREATH OF LIFE"
In Nehemiah 9:6, the leaders praise God for His creation and also for two aspects of life. What are they?
Nehemiah 9:6 - "You alone are the Lord. You made the skies and the heavens and all the stars. You made the earth and the seas and everything in them. You preserve and give life to everything, and all the angels of heaven worship you."
What are we supposed to do with the breath of life that God has given us?
Psalm 150:6 - "Let everything that lives sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!"
When man dies, he returns to dust. What part of man returns to God?
Ecclesiastes 12:7 - "For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it."
God created all living things, but He specifically "breathed life" into man. How is man set apart from all other living things because God breathed into man the breath of life?
Job 32:8 - "Surely it is God's Spirit within people, the breath of the Almighty within them, that makes them intelligent."
God breathed life into man. What did the disciples receive when Jesus breathed on them?
John 20:21-23 - "Jesus spoke to them again and said, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." Then he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven. If you refuse to forgive them, they are unforgiven."
Does our life have worth to God?
Luke 12:6-7 - "What is the price of five sparrows? A couple of pennies? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows."
