Please join us as we discover how God Uses Everyday Things, Even a Pool Table, To Teach Us About Him.
Supporting Scriptures for "In The Beginning:" Genesis 1:1 Matthew 17:2 Revelation 1:14
During our last Billiards Bible Study entitled "Things That Teach," we learned how God can use everyday things, even a pool table, to teach us about Him. Beginning with this study, we are going to begin using pool table accessories to assist in telling a famous Bible story.
Consider the white cue ball used in the game of pool and think about how this ball might relate to the following verse found in Genesis 1:1.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
The white cue ball can be a reminder of God. How do we picture God? Since we have only seen God in the person of Jesus Christ, let's see how Jesus was described when He showed Himself to be God.
In Matthew 17:2, we are told that Jesus was transfigured and his appearance changed so that His face shown like the sun, and His clothing became dazzling WHITE.
In Revelation 1:14, the Son of Man, who was Jesus, was described as follows: His head and His hair were WHITE like wool, as WHITE as snow.
So from these two verses alone, we have a reason for associating the color of WHITE with God.
"IN THE BEGINNING"
By what three things did God create the heavens and the earth?
Jeremiah 10:12 - "But God made the earth by His power, and He preserves it by His wisdom. He has stretched out the heavens by His understanding."
How does God's creation respond to Him?
Psalm 69:34 - "Praise Him, O Heaven and earth, the seas and all that move in them."
Revelation 5:13 - "And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They also sang:
"Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.""
Psalm 102:18 - "Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a nation yet to be created will praise the Lord."
Nehemiah 9:5 - "Then the leaders of the Levites called out to the people: "Stand up and praise the Lord your God, for He lives from everlasting to everlasting!" Then they continued, "Praise His glorious name! It is far greater than we can think or say."
From the verses below, what facts are listed about "the Word?"
John 1:1-3 - "In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and He was God. He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that He didn't make."
John 1:14 - "So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father."
The Bible uses the color of white to describe many heavenly concepts. Other than God, what else can we associate with the color of white?
John 20:12 - "She saw two white-robed angels sitting at the head and foot of the place where the body of Jesus had been lying."
Revelation 2:17 - "Anyone who is willing to hear should listen to the Spirit and understand what the Spirit is saying to the churches. Everyone who is victorious will eat of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one knows except the one who receives it."
Revelation 3:5 - "All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and His angels that they are mine."
Revelation 14:14 - "Then I saw the Son of Man, sitting on a white cloud. He had a gold crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand."
Revelation 19:11 - "Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. And the one sitting on the horse was named Faithful and True. For He judges fairly and then goes to war."
Revelation 19:14 - "The armies of heaven, dressed in pure white linen, followed Him on white horses."
Revelation 20:11 - "And I saw a great white throne, and I saw the one who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from His presence, but they found no place to hide."
Other than white, what else is God associated with in the Bible?
1 John 4:8 - "But anyone who does not love does not know God - for God is love."
1 Corinthians 14:33 - "For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the other churches."
Psalm 48:10 - "As your name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth. Your strong right hand is filled with victory."
Psalm 89:8 - "O Lord God Almighty! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, Lord? Faithfulness is your very character."
1 Samuel 2:2 - "No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; There is no Rock like our God."
